Create a three dimensional pillow heart card using authentic Yuzen paper that feels like silk! Based on a traditional "paper quilting" technique originally from Japan, this card is quick and easy to make.

Follow a few simple instructions and you will be on your way to making beautiful heartfelt cards!

Supplies

Blank greeting card (Strathmore Watercolor Card)
1 sheet gold metallic origami paper cut 4" x 6" (Yasutomo item number 4407)
1 sheet authentic Yuzen origami paper (Yasutomo item number 4312)
Thin chip board cut into a heart shape (The same board in the origami pacakging!)
Thin packing foam (available at Staples)
Tape runner adhesive (permanent)
Red metallic Mizuhiki paper cord
Die Cut "Love" (or use a rubber stamp or print out the word from your computer)

Instructions

  • Cut out the heart shape from the chip board with a die cutter such as the Sissix or Accucut or use an Exacto knife to cut out the shape. There are also pre-cut die shapes available at craft and scrapbook stores.
  • Using the tape runner, apply a little adhesive to the front of the chipboard heart and attach the thin foam. Cut the foam around the heart shape.
  • Glue the foam side to the back of the Yuzen paper. Cut 1/2" all the way around the heart.
  • Create notches about 1/4" apart all the way around the heart on the Yuzen paper.
  • Apply glue to the outer edges of the heart. This is where you will glue the edges of the paper down.
  • Go around the heart and glue the notched edges to the back of the heart. The notches will make it easier to go around the curved edges.
  • Punch two small holes at the back of the heart. Insert the Mizuhiki ends through the back to the front of the heart. Tie off at the front and trim.
