| Denim to Dye For |
Denim to dye for because Denim never goes out of style! Denim comes in a huge variety of garments and sizes for boys, girls and adults. It also great fun to decorate or embellish. Many fabric markers use paint but FabricMate® uses real fabric dye. This techniques uses the bleach pen to create lighter areas to dye and denim is strong enough to take the bleaching process.
The bleach in a pen (available at grocery and supermarkets) is in a gel form so it doesn't run and the pen has a tip called the broad scrubber which is very similar to a stencil brush. InstructionsStep One: Position the stencil and tape down as flat as possible against the fabric. Step Two: Use the brush end of the bleach pen like a stippling brush to stencil the gel bleach into the open areas of the stencil. It will take between 1/2-2 hours for the fabric to lighten as far as you like it. If the bleach dries, reapply using the stippling brush end again. The variety of coverage can create a batik look. Ig you want more consistency then make your coverage thicker as time goes on. You will want to do this in stages as to not saturate the fabric too much so the bleach doesn't run. Step Three: Wash out the bleach and remove the stencils in a sink filled with hot water. Launder each garment normally with soap or detergent and let dry. Determine if you want to add more bleach at this time and repeat steps one and two until you have achieved the desired design. Step Four: Color in the bleached areas using FabricMate and enjoy the variations of color, texture and saturation. The colors will pop out with the deep denim background. The denim will fade over time but the FabricMate dyes don't so the garment will re-create itself over and over again! ![]()
TipsBe sure to let the denim dry completely after washing and laundering.
