Mizuhiki Ribbon Fish

This cute little fish design originated in Thailand and were originally made with the flat and flexible leaf of the palm plant. When it was introduced in Asia,  a polyester ribbon was used instead of the plant. Mizuhiki ribbon is much stiffer than the leaves or polyester ribbon and will make a strong and durable fish for many decorative uses. In this project, orange was used, but you can make your fish any color!

A simple but elegant decoration made from Mizuhiki paper cords for greetings, gifts or jewelry. Mizuhiki has been used in Japan for hundreds of years for gift giving and there are many intricate designs such as turtles, cranes and plum blossoms made by tying the cords into a series of knots.
