Show your Colors !
Fashion your flag on any fabric with this easy technique.

Supplies needed:

  • Yasutomo Fabric-Mate chisel or brush tip pens in red and dark blue.
  • white cotton or cotton blend t-shirt
  • transfer paper or graphite paper
  • Delta fabric resist
Before you begin:
Pre-wash the garment to remove any sizing and then iron. Place a piece of cardboard or wax paper behind the area to be painted to prevent bleed through.

1 Print out the flag pattern by clicking here.
2.Transfer the image onto the ironed shirt with transfer paper. Lay the transfer paper onto the shirt, then lay the flag image on the transfer paper. Transfer the image by pressing hard on the flag drawing with a ball point pen. The image will come out very faint on the t-shirt. This is good. You do not want it to be too dark.
3. Fill in the lines with the fabric resist liquid including the stars. Wait for the resist to dry completely. This will take about 40 minutes.

4. Color over the stars section with the blue fabric pen. Be sure to cover all areas. Don't worry about going covering up the stars, since the resist will keep the dye from soaking in. Paint in your stripes in the red marker, starting with the red on the top and painting in every other line until finished.
5. When you have finished coloring you can blend the colors with a little water then let dry completely for 24 hours. Heat set with iron, then wash to remove the sizing.
