Ghost
Paper
Create a beautiful layered effect by using printed rayon paper.
 |
It was discovered that if you lay
the paper over a darker surface and glue it down, the rayon
paper practically disappears leaving the white print popping
out over the darker paper underneath.

Cut two pieces of mat board 2 1/2" x
3 1/2". Find a colorful magazine page without too much text.
Cut about 3/4" larger than mat boards and trim corners at a
45 degree angle not too close to the corner. Glue the magazine
paper to the mat board. Smooth down with fingers and let dry. |
|
Make sure the pattern from the magazine
page is desirable to you since it will show through underneath
the rayon paper. Pictures of people, animals or places are
fine as long as it doesn't contain bold text which could detract
from the white print of the rayon paper. |
|
Brush a thin layer of matte medium
or Glue-It onto the surface of the magazine covered board.
Lay the rayon paper over it and smooth down with fingers. |
|
Brush matte medium or glue
over the rayon paper until it is nearly transparent. Smooth
down. Press in-between wax paper a heavy object until completely
dry. After the boards dry you will see the ghost paper effect!
Use the covers for a book, to cover a box or to embellish
a greeting card. |

Rayon paper is very strong
and durable. It comes in several printed styles or can
be purchased plain. The plain rayon paper (#HP102) is
also known as surfboard paper, because after it is printed,
the paper is laid onto the surfboard or skateboard and
resin is applied over it and the paper completely disappears,
leaving only the printed image.
