Handmade Paper Gift Card
Making handmade paper has never been easier!

Supplies needed:

  • Papyrus 21 Paper Making kit PMK100
  • Paper Scraps
  • Mizuhiki paper cords
  • origami paper
  • Y&C Glue It
  • scissors
  • cardboard
First, you need to make several sheets of paper with the Papyrus 21 paper making kit and let them dry thoroughly according to the directions in the kit. The paper will need to be card stock thickness and pressed well during drying. It's good to iron a piece of handmade paper only after it thoroughly dries. You can "size" the paper by spraying fabric starch onto the paper and iron. Doing this will give your handmade paper a nice writing surface.

Your handmade sheets will be about 4"x6" postcard size with a deckled edge. Experiment with colors and added ingredients for different looks and textures.

Instructions on how to make a gift card:

When your paper is dry fold it in half lengthwise to make your card. Tear a couple of scraps of decorative paper and glue onto the outside of the card in a random fashion. To make a paper knot, just cut a piece of origami paper into a strip about 5" x 1". Fold it in half lengthwise to make a "belt" and then tie a simple square knot and flatten once the knot is formed. Slip a few strands of Mizuhiki paper cord into the knot for accent. Glue the knot assembly onto your card.

Instructions on how to make a handmade paper book:

Make 3-4 pieces of paper the same thickness and color. Let dry and press. Cut 2 cardboard covers 3"x4".  Cut a piece of decorative paper for the cover 6"x8". Lay the two cardboard cover pieces down on the wrong side of the cover paper and glue a little more than 1/4" apart. Mitre corners and fold all edges in to smooth the sides. Score the spine edge of the book cover and fold together. This is your book cover.
Fold all 3 pages in half. Stitch pages together at folded edge with needle and thread.
Glue each end of book to inside covers. Open and close the book to make sure the pages open well. The finished book will 3 3/4"x4". Decorate the pages and the cover with anything you desire!
