Painting with the Waterbrush
Watercolor painting has never been easier!

Supplies needed:

  • Niji Waterbrush
  • Water
  • Water soluble pigments
  • Paper or card stock
Tips and techniques. The Niji Waterbrush is a great tool for artists, crafters, rubber stampers and students. It comes in three different brush tip sizes for a range of creative expression. You can use the small for fine detail work such as filling in areas of a rubber stamp image or miniatures. The medium is an all purpose brush capable of fine work as well as bolder strokes and the large is great for big juicy color washes.
Just fill the reservoir with water and you are ready to go!

Here are just a few uses for the Waterbrush:

Watercolor pencils and aqua crayons: The brush is a perfect companion for these! Just keep your pencils right in the tray and pick up color from the pencil, onto the brush and start painting. Great for the traveler or student.

Tube Watercolors: Squeeze your colors in a folding palette, let dry for a day or so and be sure to fill your Waterbrush. You will never have to scramble for a cup of water while you are in the car, on the road or on a plane again!

Silk Painting: The Waterbrush is perfect for silk painting. You can use it to lift color out of painted areas to make beautiful shaded areas. You can use Fabric Mate markers to color an area, then go back with the brush to lift color out. Be sure to clean your brush out on a paper towel every time you pick up a little color from the silk. Let dry and you will see how easy and effective this technique is.

Let dry for full effect.

Rubber Stamping: Stamp an image onto a watercolor block with permanent ink. Let dry thoroughly. Use water soluble colored pencils, aqua crayons or watercolors and the Waterbrush to fill in the desired areas of the image and let dry.

Tips: The Waterbrush is intended for use with water only but you can experiment by filling the reservoir with watersoluble dyes and inks. It is not recommended for acryilic or solvent based paints or inks since the pigment may solidify and clog the brush. Check the manufacturers labels for ingredients contained with the pigments. Always clean your brush after use and empty the reservoir and let dry completely when not using the brush for long periods of time.
